I got Michael to agree to play some old videogames with me as one of our many summer projects (other projects include: Deadwood Season 3, Veronica Mars, Comic Book Nonsense, wandering NYC parks). Planescape: Torment wasn't working out so I moved onto Chrono Trigger which has been delightful. It is funny to watch him react because I don't even remember a time in my life when there were things about that game I DIDN'T know.
He saw Marle's portrait and immediately renamed her to Hideo which I thought was mean but also fun. He was also so dissapointed when he accidentally got spoiled that Magus can join the party. It is pretty rad and I'm glad I got the chance to do this.

I, uh, spent a lot of mental energy on that game between 1998 and 2004, didn't I?
I hope livejournal is doing well! I have been bad about updating it but am not giving up on the service any time soon. I still read most days but I am just as bad at commenting as ever, but I do pay attention to people's posts. Every now and then, like today, I go back and find people's LJ's and discover they haven't updated in one, two, three years and it makes me sad. Mostly because I kind of realize I will probably never hear from them again. I hate that, even though I am bad at talking to people sometimes. Even when I want to!

soooooooooooo as some might remember, I did that whole chemo thing back in the winter. My hair has officially been "back" since like june but I'm not sure what to do with it. It is like really curly now but not in any sort of manageable way. Like it isn't going to just tumble off my regal brow in a wash of brown curls which will frame me perfectly.
mostly it just goes in whatever direction it pleases.
I think I am going to let it grow for a month and see if it turns into a beautiful swan and otherwise just keep it cut short if/when that fails. Razors are cheap.
I still haven't gotten the energy I used to have back. I think that is because I got fat as shit in the months after the initial surgery in December and not any lasting effects. I still want to get buff but money is so fucking tight it is really depressing. At least I'm not dying.
ANYWAYS enough about this shit.
I took a trip with my family and it was very nice and I am also very glad to NOT be on a trip anymore, which I think most people can understand. I want to try to be less cynical and also less of a nervous wreck all the time. We'll see how that goes. I also want to be more social again. I know I basically cut literally everyone out of my inner circle, so to speak, over the past two years. What can I say, I didn't want to hang out with myself, let alone other people. That's something else to work on.
I still want to stop freelancing and get a job with benefits.
I also want some muffins.
I will DEFINITELY have one of those two tomorrow. |

Hoooome from Beach House. Basically accomplished what I wanted out of it. Communing with old friends, meeting new ones, and getting some mental catharsis as well.
I have been hurting pretty bad all week which blows and need to go to a doctor but it was nothing that Street Fighter and hard liquor couldn't cure for at least a week.
best parts about beach house
1. Cleanest, most chill house ever.
2. I got a gallon milk jug, filled it with whiskey, and safely drank in the ocean. I WIN OCEAN. I win.
3. Ben Jackson got drunk and literally talked about The Room for 45 minutes non-stop. Most epic drunken essay ever. |

| The Real World: Sexual Violence Edition |

I know it is long past its prime as a cultural touchstone, or even as a topic at the water cooler, but I've been seeing and hearing a whole lot about the latest edition of MTV's The Real World.
Long story short, there's a black gay man who is on the cast and as far as I can tell it has literally just been hell for him. From what I remember from the old school days, the Real World would have everyone learn a lesson about a very important minority at some point during the season. Not this year. It is mostly just fag bashing.
See, in addition to the REGULAR gay dude, some closet case hair dresser is on the show as the world's most impressive self hating homosexual. I don't like to judge other's sexuality, but he's gay. He is definitely, 100% gay. But he does nothing but make mean, bigoted remarks (fag, whatever) and basically make the other dude's life hell.
That's bad, but then there's some asshole out of the Midwest with a mouth of teeth that a dentist would die for that was just like saying to his face that he can't wait to see the gay guy get beat up on the street for dressing up like Lady Gaga. Like it would be a real thrill.
What the hell is going on at MTV? This sounds terrifying. |
